Drop-In Tutoring is a popular way for students to get academic support in a relaxed, stress-free environment. It gives students the chance to work through their assignments and problem sets while knowing help is available whenever they need it.

Matt Holmes, an experienced tutor, typically leads the sessions. Matt is highly skilled in Math and Physics, as well as all math aspects of Test Prep (SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT Math).

Matt discovered his passion for mathematics during his high school calculus class, sparking a tutoring career that began in 2015. From the University of California to Santa Fe Community College, he's worn various tutoring hats, including roles as a small group tutor and graduate teaching assistant. Matt strives to foster comprehension over memorization and believes that guiding students toward independent discovery can be key for achieving deeper understanding. Meeting students where they are, Matt sheds light on connections between mathematical concepts that are often overlooked.

Matt's scientific side emerged during research internships at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he applied math to real-world problems in computational physics. Excited to share his expertise, he offers tutoring services spanning from elementary to advanced undergraduate levels in math, along with standardized test preparation for exams such as the SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, HSPT, and AP.

Outside whiteboards and textbooks, Matt enjoys rock climbing, cycling, stand-up paddling, reading, and playing board games. Committed to promoting critical thinking and scientific literacy in everyday life, Matt brings a well-rounded and engaging approach to both his tutoring and personal pursuits.

Simon Ruland: Drop-In Tutoring and 1:1

Simon is available to tutor mathematics, physics, and psychology through the college level, including AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Precalculus, AP Statistics, and ACT, SAT, ISEE, and SSAT mathematics. He is pursuing an M.S. in Applied and Computational Mathematical Sciences at the University of Washington. Simon always enjoyed math but discovered his true love of mathematics as a lab assistant at the University of Denver, where he spent three years working with students. He is enthusiastic about how math relates to the real world and hopes to impart that passion to his students. He aims to guide students to make their own discoveries and deepen their understanding of the material. Outside of school, Simon enjoys biking and playing basketball.

Justin Diamond: Drop-In Tutoring

Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering, University of Washington, 2027

Justin discovered his passion for STEM during high school AP Physics and AP Calculus classes. Currently, Justin is pursuing a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on ocean acoustics. He also has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from California State University, Fullerton. During his undergraduate program, Justin developed a passion for tutoring students in engineering mathematics and programming. He is excited to work with students and help them succeed in their academic pursuits. He is available to tutor Math through Calculus as well as SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, HSPT Exams.

Outside of school, Justin enjoys running, hiking, and reading history books. In high school, Justin played the trumpet in the marching band, jazz band, and classical ensemble. There, he performed at various venues, including the Rose Parade and Carnegie Hall. Justin has a passion for learning and hopes to share that passion with his students.
